River at 4

I still see the milk dribble on your chin,
and smell the cheerios in your breath.
In my lap you are ready to play
as you giggle and you laugh.

Tickle spider me mama,
you say - as you stick out your tongue.
You make that silly noise,
then your off... you run.

You hold such joy in your heart,
and express unhindered delight.
You ask for miricales
and you talk of light.

At only the age of four.
You ask questions of the deep.
Wisdom in your tiny bones.

And dreaming dreams in your sleep.

I am fascinated by the words that you say.
healing women and seven at three.
I'm so thankful I get to listen
And hear of the things you see...

Run my child play,
Burst bubbles in the air.
Sing and dance twirl and spin.
Catch bugs with bows in hair.

We'll dance through this earth
and on heaven's soil
You can paint my house.
Without tears without toil.

Were gonna be great friends.
We are going to play
Everywhere we go
all the people they will say.

Where did that child come from?
What in the world is going on?
Can't you contain her?
And I'll say... No - not for long.

She's a beauty all her own.
God made her special and full of life.
She'll run this race her own way.
And in the very end the bride of Christ.

Happy Birthday

Of all mornings river... You chose today - the day of your fourth birthday...
Mom? how do we get to heaven...

I wasn't thinking about what she was asking... oh well at the end of this life when you are really really really old... older than mimi and God has used up all your time then... that's when you get to heaven..

NO mom... HOW do I get to heaven..

Ooooh... well you have to have Jesus in your heart...

Oh well mom I already have Jesus in my heart.

You Do???? Lucy pipes in about this time remember when I said my prayer... oh yes Lucy I said I remember...

River says well I want to say that prayer...  So we prayed... and I said if you already have him in there then you don't need to ask again, he's there to stay, BUT... you can always pray to talk to him and live with him... Now our goal is to live every day from here on out for him and not for ourselves...

Something like that...

Today I asked her what all her favorites were.
Color : White (I like all the colors Mom) Oh and pink
Animal: Bunny... And KITTY
What she want's to be: 16
What she likes to wear: Princess Dresses
What her favorite shoes are : Boots
Favorite Friend: Aniyah
Do: Find Flowers
Favorite thing about being 4: Wrestling with Daddy.
And she is thankful for snow ????

Morning

After the girls and I read we always pray, to see what God is saying to us about what we read.. So I try to start us of with some meaningful words of prayer to get us started then we sit in silence. Today as I started praying river stopped me in her wonderful River style and said MOOOM when you talk I can't hear God... Can you be quiet so I can hear what he's saying to me... She didn't say it in a mean way, she said it in a matter of fact way...  I said ok River you hear God and then I will pray.

First fireworks glimpse

Words cannot express my thankfulness that God gave us River! Her joy and excitement about life, her crazy ambition, expressiveness just makes my heart so happy!

Tonight she came barreling out of her room MOM I looked out my window and saw a big circle of light as she stretched her hands as far as they could go! Mom it was like colorful rain, it was the most excited I have seen her in almost 24 hours ;).

I love this kid!!

Theology to a three year old

River
Yesterday river was making a picture out of yarn, she said "mommy this is a picture about God when he died on the cross." She stuns me. Often. Every day I get to pray that her passion would be used for God. I pray that it will.

It was a fluke that she watched that movie at a church function. It was not age appropriate.. But she reminds me about the roman soldiers about every two or three weeks since January I think. It is burned into her mind.. It made an impact.. Her view of God us forever changed.. Her salvation will come at a price. Yesterday we talked about what it would be like if he hand't died and rose again.. Pretty good day of theology for a three year old.

She didn't finish the art btw. She abandoned the project ;) but I'm sure we well see more on this at a later date.

River's Prayer

Every time River prays for food she says the same prayer.
"Thank you God for our food. and so much thankfulness in our hearts. Amen"

Welcome

Welcome to my new child, formerly known as the rushing gushing raging river. I think I will now call her my peaceful river. Don't get me wrong she's still rushing but her rage is gone. In two weeks we have had about 3 fits as compared to our 5 per day. Her anger and frustration has been replaced by laughter and talking. Dustin and I look at each other often and say who is this kid?? It's sad to think she has been hiding this whole time.. I feel horrible for not believing that her diet could have such an impact. I think I've just always thought well I ate all of that and I never had any problems. I think God did a lot in our home that day, 1. I think there was real breakthrough with prayer, and 2. He gave us a long term plan to maintain peace in our home. If u are interested read the book "Why my child can't behave, and get a whole bunch of people to pray.. I think u can get the first 150 pages free, I'm renaming it to "If you don't want your kids to act like crazys don't feed them junk". Anyway here's to the good life. God is faithful..

Changes

All right folks... Were making the change. At least to see if there is a difference.. In the past week our child's behavior has escalate from bad to worse.. Yesterday I went to a friends house and ended up hauling my kid out sideways because her tantrum was so out of control it was the only thing I could do!
That morning we had given her a new juice that we don't normally buy I noticed her tongue was bright red. The same thing the night before. When we had over an hour and a half session of ballistic nonsense. This week has been hard..

In the back of my mind I was remembering a friend of mine who blogged about the Feingold diet and how it practically changed their lives. It's mostly geared towards children with ADD and ADHD but also used for children with signs of autism, uncontrollable behavior, behavior that is unresponsive to discipline...

And then another thing was happening in the background... I was having a conversation in my head yesterday morning after reading an encouragement from a friend. Saying that she had prayed and the two things that had come to her mind were juice and diet... Juice was for the wetting the pants diet for the emotional stress. And I thought to myself... Well Lord its either the diet or we are just not doing things right at all... AND THEN at that very moment I got a text from another friend that said Natalie I just feel like God wanted me to text you right now and say that you are a good parent...

So at this point... We've got NOTHING to LOSE.. If it doesn't work then we will all just be healthier for a little while. My kids love juice... so at this point we are moving down to one cup a day (SHOCKER) and it will be homemade juice. They recommend pineapple or pear juice or Lemon with sugar. This morning we had our whole wheat pancakes, but with organics natural syrup. And dinner was in the same fashion last night...  For her especially we are cutting out all fake ingredients.. This will be hard when going out to eat and in school... But were going to give it a go...

Lastly I heard something completely separate... and kind of weird... The thought came to mind Get a dog... I know you guys are laughing... me, the dog HATER!! But as I thought about it, I wonder if she had something to take care of and think about besides her self... Plus when my parents came with Oscar a few months ago... She was so in love and so happy with this dog... And her attitude in general was better. SO... were praying about it. we'll see.. I'm sure puppies wear off at some point..

Bye bye binki

We are considering this a major milestone for the rivs. The bink has been her comfort since she has been born. In fact it is often the only thing that calms her down. We have been talking to her for a month and praying for three and two days ago she woke up and said mama today I want to take my nap with out a binki. And she did. Today we sent it into the sky with balloons. An idea from our friends the Bonnows. It worked!
